The Healing Art of Good Food

Who said food wasn't a healing art?

Well, preparing and eating healthy and delicious food is a wonderful way to get your creative juices flowing and connect the mind, body, and soul. From seeing the colors...connecting your hands to the foods...intaking the tasty flavors...and the smelling the aromas..your sense are all being stimulated and you now have a way to express yourself by designing your food.

The other day, I had the pleasure of inviting a wonderful mentor of mine over for dinner. Her name is Jill Schneider. She has been such an inspiration to me since moving to South Florida almost 4 years ago. Jill is a Holistic Life Coach, a Cancer survivor, and the director of Circle of Life Retreats in Delray Beach, FL. She heals herself naturally of Stage 5 Cervical Cancer back in the 70s and has been helping others do the same through lifestyle changes and juice fasting. Please check her out here for Juice Fasting Retreats: circle-of-life.net

She, my king- Rob, and I enjoyed the raw vegan healing foods that I prepared. We  had elevating conversations from healing arts, juice fasting, music, business ideas, travel experiences, youth activism. Raw vegan simply means that there is no dairy, eggs, or heat. Using no heat above 104 degrees or so preserves all the enzymes in the food so that more nutrients are absorbed into the body.

But on to the good stuff.... I got requests for recipes, so here goes..

Coconut Water Fast anyone?

Coconut Watering fasting is my favorite way of fasting. This is because I am giving my digestive system a break, bust still getting all the nutrients and healing properties of the young coconut water.

For those who may not know, Coconut Water comes from the young green coconuts on the Coconut Palm Tree in tropical locations. It is rich in electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorous, and calcium. It contains no harmful fats, prescribed, or cholesterol which is s great alternative to commercial sports drinks that are high in sugar like high fructose corn syrup.

Coconut Water has been known to lower the blood pressure, cure hangovers, boost the immune system, and help with acid reflux. It promotes healthy skin and its antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial. It is said to kill intestinal parasites because of this.

The pH of Coconut Water is also isotonic with our blood so it can be used as a plasma substitute and to processed baby milk because it contains Laurie acid.

I am preparing to do another 3 day coconut water fast on July 7! You can do longer if you wish. I plan to do about 5-7 days. If you are interested in this fast, please let me know. I can provide 2 varitations of this fast: Coconut Water Detox Fast or Coconut Water & Green Juice Detox. Study confirms Sound Healing Heals Cancer, Arthritis,Autoimmune Disease, & More....

Sound healing is the practice of using audio tones and vibrational frequencies to repair damaged tissue and cells within the body. It works on the basis that all matter is vibrating at specific frequencies, and sickness, disease, depression and stress causes human beings to vibrate at a lower frequency. Playing tones that promote healing, happiness and vitality will allow DNA strands to repair themselves, and several scientific studies have been conducted on the potential healing benefits of audio sound frequencies. Sound has been used as a healing tool for centuries, and is still regularly utilized by many different alternative healthcare centers. Tibetan singing bowels, tuning forks, drumming therapy, and even chanting are all used in sound therapy and many participants experience strong emotions during therapy sessions. Advocates of sound healing claim that it has the power to heal mental illness, arthritis, autoimmune disorders and can even shrink cancerous tumors.

What are the Healing Arts?

By: Rachael "BluLotus" Bynum, Healing Arts Practitioner

What Are the Healing Arts?

The healing arts are used to as a way to promote healing, wellness, coping, and personal development.  The arts include visual, performing, auditory, therapeutic/energetic touch, and literary. These approaches utilize creative expression to transform the person's state of psychological and spiritual well being. These sessions are led by therapists experienced in both areas.

Are you already using the Arts?

There is a fine line between the artist and the healer. When was the last time you let music speak to your soul? Do you still color or paint? Activities like drawing, dancing, writing, singing, acting, or playing an instrument are all ways to tap into the traditional healing arts. It is a way of knowing yourself better on the deepest levels, connecting with others, coping with stress, and communicating your inner experience in a way that is most comfortable for you.

Non Traditional Healing Art Forms

When was the last time your hands touched the dirt the way it did as a child? Gardening and cooking help you to experience your senses and connect with nature. Laughter is good for the soul and helps to boost the immune system. Meditation, yoga, and guided imagery bring us into a deep relaxation, and helps us feel more connected to our body, nature and the universe in which we live. Crystal Healing is an art form that can clear your aura and rebalance your mind, body, and spirit. Therapeutic touch in the form of massage promotes healing and rest by increasing the circulation of blood and lymph, and by releasing any tension that the body may be carrying. Other examples are Reiki, which is energy healing, or by using sound healing through Tibetan Singing Bowls or Tuning Forks.

How Healing Art Practitioners use the Arts?

Healing arts therapies are tailored to the individual, using methods that the person will identify with. Healing arts practitioners understand that health is not just the absence of dis-ease but a creation of positive opportunities that impact the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual states of a person's well being. Practitioners use the arts to get their client/patient to a better psychological state and life situation, as they're coping with stress, illness, hurt, or trauma....or simply as an outlet of self expression. Practitioners are found is hospitals to create a healthier environment, or they may work with youth, community centers, art centers, private practices, spas, complimentary & alternative health centers, etc..

Are You Productive or Just Busy?

By: Rachael "BluLotus" Bynum
Being “busy” for the sake of being busy is a waste. Instead, be productive.
1..Plant your seed (ideas/dreams) in fertile soil with proper planning and good intent.
2.Water it with love by adding nutrients of evolving ideas while imagining that dream.
3. Allow light and air to bring growth to that seed (idea).
4.Get rid of any harmful insects or dis-eases that may attack the seed’s development. These are better known as bad habits, poor association, and distractions.
5. Get out of the way and watch magic happen.
LETTING GO and allowing nature to run it’s course is truly an art….It’s where most get impatient or quit. But if you’ve planted the seed with love and good intent, just like nature, it has no choice but to manifest. Your season is almost here. Patience, my friend. Trust yourself and trust that your seed will grow.
